Summary The main aim of NESTOR is to become the first step towards the introduction of a novel, integrated and cost effective approach for efficient energy storage/management applications, based on cheap, available and non-harmful components, the CaO/CaCO3 system. This system belongs to the concept of Energy Carrying Compounds (ETS), using a suitable material to carry the energy from an energy-rich site to the place of energy demand. The ETS, in the low energy state, travels back to the energy-rich site. Under-standably, Greece is the energy-rich site and Germany is the site of demand. Such a thermochemical energy storage system could provide a means of renewable energy storage and transport.
