Dr. George Karagiannakis (Principal Researcher), is a Chemical Engineer (Dipl. Chem. Eng. Aristotle Univ. of Thessaloniki, 1999; Ph.D., Aristotle Univ. of Thessaloniki, 2005; M.Sc. I.S., Univ. of Macedonia, 2004). His research activities are mainly in the areas of materials and concepts for solar-aided thermochemical cycles for the production of energy carriers, in the synthesis of tailored-made sub-micron particles via aerosol-based as well as solid- and liquid-phase self-propagating high temperature synthesis techniques and in the desulphurization of liquid and gaseous fuels via use of novel adsorbents. He also has experience in high temperature electrocatalytic processes. During his professional/research career, Dr. Karagiannakis has participated in more than 25 competitive EU- and national-funded research projects and has authored more than 50 publications in International Refereed Journals and Conference Proceedings. He is the national representative of Greece in the SolarPACES technology collaboration programme of the International Energy Agency and an appointed expert in Thermochemical Energy Storage in the framework of the activities of a relevant SolarPACES Task Group (Task II: Solar Chemistry). He is a member of the Aerosol and Particle Technology Laboratory since October 2006.
